Dr. David W. Davidson
Dr.
David W. Davidson grew up in Adel, Iowa and graduated from Adel High School in 1972. He attended college at Morningside
College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he received his B.A. in biology in 1976. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree
in 1980 from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. While at Iowa, he received first place in the preventive dentistry
competition sponsored by the American Student Dental Association, the Oral Pathology Award from the University of Iowa Dental
School, and served as Vice President of the student body for the 1979-1980 school year.
Dr.
Davidson practiced dentistry for 24 years at Beaverdale Family Dentistry; the first six of those years alongside his
friend and mentor, Dr. Joseph Cortese. Dr. Cortese practiced at the office at 2614 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa for
most of his professional career. In May 2005, Dr. Davidson relocated his practice to 8573 Urbandale Avenue, Urbandale,
Iowa under the name Davidson Family Dentistry. Dr. Davidson also serves as an adjunct faculty for the University of
Iowa College of Dentistry and enjoys the opportunity to work with the dental students during their rotations through
Broadlawns Hospital. Dr. Davidson previously served from 1980 through 1987 as a Major in the Dental Corps of the Iowa
Army National Guard and from 1988 through 1994 as a Major in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve (Inactive).
Dr. Davidson is currently a member of the American Dental Association, Iowa Dental Association, Des
Moines District Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and American College of Forensic Examiners.
He serves as a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, the American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Davidson is currently in his second year of a three-year term on the Board of Trustees of the Iowa Dental Association.
He has previously served in a number of positions and offices with both the Iowa Dental Association and the Des Moines District
Dental Association, including president of the Des Moines District Dental Association in 2002.
During
the past seven years, Dr. Davidson has traveled to the following countries on dental health care ministry trips: Peru, Brazil,
Philippines, Papua New Guinea, India and Jamaica. He has been issued awards of appreciation from the American Dental
Association for this service.
Dr. Davidson has been married since
1975 to Diane, who is general counsel at Knapp Properties, Inc. They have three children; Philip, finishing his final
semester at Palmer College of Chiropractic; Michael, see below; and Elizabeth, a sophomore at the University of Iowa.
Dr. Davidson enjoys traveling, collecting historical artifacts, singing and photography. He has visited and traveled
to more than 50 countries. He is an active member of the First Assembly of God church and the Des Moines Choral Society,
where he is on the Board of Directors.
